For once, Logan actually seems vulnerable -- at lest for a good chunk of the film. He's also haunted by his memories of Jean Grey, whom he had to kill in a previous film (which I have yet to see). I wasn't too keen on the changes made to the Viper, f/k/a Madame Hydra, from her portrayal in Bronze Age comics, but ah well. Overall though, a great flick. Over at Sequart.Org, btw, Dr. Julian Darius provided an excellent review, albeit with spoilers.Fred W. So we see our share of stinkers -I think the worst so far was "Fast and the Furious 7" or whatever number they're up to. Terrible!! I still hope to see "Red2" before it moves out of theaters. Probably next week!

Garett - My rankings are only my opinion, but I liked the first X-Men film, X-Men 2, and First Class. I don't think I can put The Wolverine in there with those films just because the ending really pulls it down. It's a shame. If they had done what I thought they were setting out to do, it could have been a very cool movie.Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17032477453891087135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5293155946761960913.post-88888758105004734462013-07-29T08:00:58.771-05:002013-07-29T08:00:58.771-05:00The local paper gave it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars, whic...The local paper gave it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars, which surprised me; enough that my interest in seeing it in theater increased. Since then, the franchise hasn't done much for me. I'm still mad that we didn't get a big cgi "Phoenix Effect", and the 3rd movie just had too much going on.
But I think Jackman's a decent actor, so I expect 'The Wolverine' to be a solid 2 and a half star actioner. Actually, I haven't even seen the first Wolverine yet - I can't even be bothered with the DVD, I'm just waiting for it to be shown on TV.
Like Graham, I really haven't been enjoying the X-movies (and like Graham, despite the fact that I was deeply into the Claremont/Byrne X-men and way beyond).
