Welcome!

You've come across a blog that we hope will be a lot of fun.

Your hosts are Doug, a high school social science teacher based in the Midwest, and Karen, a research scientist based in the Southwest. We're about the same age, and despite our lack of geographic proximity, had some similar interests and experiences growing up throughout the 1970's-1980's. Lyndon Johnson was president when we were born, and Ronald Reagan was about to leave the White House when we were wrapping up college.

You'll see discussions of all things pop-culture. One week we might take a look at a film of the era (like Planet of the Apes or Logan's Run), another week it might be a review of a comic book story (Amazing Spider-Man #'s 121-122 -- the deaths of Gwen Stacy and of the original Green Goblin).
We'll tell you what music we were listening to at a given period of our childhood, and what toys we were playing with.

So stop by from time-to-time, and be sure to leave a comment or reminiscence of your own.

Doug and Karen

  1. Although it may seem absurd to comment on a two-year-old post, and I do not by any means pledge to read every single one of the intervening ones between then and now, I did recently stumble across this blog and wanted to see where it all began. I'm just a tad older than you folks (JFK was still a few months from leaving this world when I entered it), but we're roughly contemporaneous, share many of the same interests, and cover a number of them on our respective blogs.

I will dip into your archives as often as time permits, and have already signed up to receive your new posts via e-mail. If you have not done so already, I urge you to check out Marvel University, hosted by cult blog-meisters Peter Enfantino and John Scoleri, whose interests and online careers seem to be overlapping mine with increasing frequency.

Wishing you continued success with BAB, and looking forward to much more pleasurable reading.

  2. Wow, Matthew -- you spelunked pretty deep into BAB history to get this one! And look -- the first to comment on the post!

Thanks for the kind wishes, and I will check out the Marvel University blog (of which I've not previously heard).

    Best,

    Doug

  3. Well, once I stumbled onto the blog (via your multi-part post on the Avengers-Defenders War, which I was invoking within a Bob Brown comment for Marvel University), I started checking out random posts, aided immeasurably by your user-friendly review index. But then I thought, I could go nuts doing this, and decided to be a bit more systematic. Plus, as a fellow blogger, I was interested to see how you'd introduced the site. So you'll notice a lot of tardy comments as I get caught up.

  4. As apparent from my comments of the past few days, I've been doing some archive spelunking recently (probably prompted by all of the "reprint" posts of the past month) and realized I'd actually never read your inaugural post.
Also interesting to see how the blog has evolved - I really like those "Weird Wednesdays" and "5 things to love" posts, but I think it's cool that you moved on to the Open Forum, Discuss, etc. type posts later...
