Happy Labor Day, America!

Doug: While the day of celebration for those of us working our butts off day-in and day-out is not until Monday, we thought we'd celebrate with one of the greatest laborers of all time -- albeit a bit early. So here he is, the Mighty Hercules, in a scene from Marvel Team-Up #28 (1974), by Jim Mooney and Vinnie Colletta. Oh, and it's also one of the most ridiculous scenes ever depicted!

  2. Yeah, what are you guys trying to say? That Manhatten isn't just sitting on a giant rubber raft? If not, then how did Terrax pick it up out of the Hudson River so easily in that issue of Fantastic Four?

  3. At least Marvel eventually had the good sense to admit that this particular story was one of Hercules' modern tall tales within the Marvel Universe. Even for Bronze Age yarns, pulling Manhattan back and forth was asking for a bit too much artistic license from fandom. Back in the Golden Age, though, well considering there's a story where the Human Torch flew off to Jupiter or some such place and back in a matter of hours without any sort of rocket ....
