Karen: That's right, we're asking the ultimate Marvel fan question: In a fight between (Bronze-Age) Hulk and (Bronze-Age) Thor, who's going to step away victorious? Sure, we saw the two titans go at it during the Avengers-Defenders War, but that was hardly conclusive. So who ya got: the Thunder God or the Jade Giant? Let's hear your reasoning!
And don't forget to vote in the poll, either!
Thor, Hands down.
ReplyDeleteFor me, there are two major questions to be answered:
ReplyDeleteFirst, is Hulk so invincible that a blow to the head from Mjolnir could not kill him, or greatly damage his brain?
Secondly, just because Thor is immortal does not necessarily mean he cannot be killed, correct? I have Thor Annual #5 (battle against the Olympians) and there are a whole lotta dead gods in there. So, if the Hulk ripped Thor's arms off (for example), should we assume that Thor would not bleed to death?
All of that being said, Thor has many more powers at his disposal than does the Hulk. That alone is enough for me to side with the God of Thunder.

I think Thor should be able to beat Hulk if he goes after him hard and ends it quickly. But the longer it goes on, the angrier Hulk will get, and the stronger he will get...

The readers.
ReplyDeleteI think their would be epic moments all round but Hulk would win out. He just wouldn't stop and it'd take more than hurricane winds to stop him.
ReplyDeleteIf the Hulk was in Mr Fixit mode it wouldn't even be a question :D
The votes are in, and it was a close one! The thunder god barely edged out the green goliath, 11 to 10! Thanks for playing along with us in this favorite fan past-time.

Surely, if it really came down to it, and Thor was utterly determined to beat the Hulk no matter what, he would simply open up a space warp and send Hulkie somewhere that doesn't support human life, like outer space. Or the centre of the earth. Or Detroit.

I think it all comes down to the hammer. If Thor has Mjolnir, he'll find a way to win. Not only is an effective battering device and projectile, but he often uses it to whip some magic out of his butt. If the Hulk can somehow get the hammer out of the equation, then I'll choose the Hulk, assuming we're talking about the old school, angrier = stronger, green Hulk.
ReplyDeleteThor, because he has more powers to call on than just strength.
ReplyDeleteIf the fight is between the classic "Hulk Smash!" Hulk and classic Kirby/Lee Thor I have to say that the winner would undoubtedly be Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris is always the winner.
ReplyDeleteHammer or not, Thor wins hands down! First, it's been established that Thor holds back when fighting mere mortals on Earth. In all their battles, no matter how angry the Hulk got (and he got angrier by the minute in those stories), he never became strong enough to overpower Thor, who was holding back his full strength.
ReplyDeleteThen we have to factor in the Asgardian Warrior's Rage. Should Hulk anger Thor enough, Thor enters his warrior's rage and his strength is automatically enhanced by a factor of 10! And in that case, Thor would be so enraged that he would not hold back.
So on one hand we have a calm, normal strength Thor always holding back against a perpetually more enraged Hulk who is unable to overpower Thor.
On the other hand, we have an enraged Thor who stops holding back and whose strength is suddenly jacked up by a factor of ten. No question whatsoever, Hulk becomes a green stain on the rug.
Thor wins, of course. He's as strong as the Hulk is, and can even increase his own strength with that belt of his.
ReplyDeleteAnd Thor's superiority only starts with the muscles. His true power rests in Mjolnir. If he stops considering the Hulk a poor beast and starts to consider him a villainous menace, it's all over for the Hulk.
Doug, you're right: if the hulk ripped out Thor's arms, then Goldilocks would bleed to death. The damage would be too great for Thor's regeneration and resistance against aging to overcome.
ReplyDeleteHowever, that's purely academic, since the Hulk simply doesn't have (or can ever generate) enough strength to rip out Thor's arms from their sockets.
Remember the Avengers/Defenders War. Thor was wrestling the Hulk for hours-- and even though the Hulk got ever madder (and, hence, stronger), he was unable to move the Asgardian even the tiniest bit.
Glad to see Thor getting the credit he deserves here... Now only if the Avengers movies would do the same
