Justice League: Classy or Jazzy?

Karen: A simple question today friends: which do you prefer, the original Justice League theme song, or the Justice League Unlimited version?

Karen: I think the original is better, much more dramatic and classy (and apparently influenced heavily by music from a Hammer film called Twins of Evil). I hated the new theme when it came out, but I have to admit it has grown on me.

  1. I've got to give the nod to the original. The second theme is dandy, but is more a typical TV theme, lighter and more energetic. The original theme has a calm majesty that's just beautiful to listen to. I hated to miss that show come on, because I knew it would be a week before I could hear that lovely theme again.

  3. To be honest, I never really thought about it before now, but I gotta go with the original. They are both nice, but the original is just more epic sounding.

However, my favorite DC Animated theme is still the original Batman TAS opening. Even when I'd tape the show and watch it back I wouldn't fast forward through the theme. It was the perfect lead-in and always got me jazzed to watch the show.

  4. I like them both, but I tend to favor the classic version. How much influence has Danny Elfman's Batman (1989) score had on super-hero films/cartoons? I will say, though, that I didn't think that style fit very well on the theme of the Flash television show.

  5. Actually the best animated super hero TV theme of all time is from the old 1960's Spider-Man show. IMO

    "Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can..."

    Classic.

  6. Yeah, the Spider-Man theme ranks a notch above the original Bat Man tv show theme and that certainly helped raise awareness of the character even among the non-superhero comics reading public at large. Likely helped push Spidey up into the ranks of Superman and Bat Man as one of the world's most famous comics superheroes, with perhaps Wonder Woman and the Hulk joining them by the end of the '70s. They Might Be Giants even ripped off (err, "borrowed") the tune for their song, "Particle Man".

  7. I liked 'The Flash' theme, again a show WAY shorter in span than it should have been. But the classic Spiderman theme still Rocks..

It's best when you hear jazz guitarists do it in their sets. I'm actually learning it now as well..

  8. I have to go with the original. I find it inspiring and more what I expect from a Justice League starring the "Big Seven". I agree with Rip Jagger that the second theme is more of a typical TV theme. I would even says there's a bit of rock-y cheesiness to it. It might work OK for the Teen Titans, but not for the Justice League.

  9. One more vote for the original. It has a real grandeur. The Unlimited version sounds way too generic to my ears.
