I generally like Alex Ross, but neither of these are doing it for me. I guess the Spider-Man one is _okay_, but Aunt May's hand looks really weird in the foreground.
I agree. The first one seems faded, too pastelly. Aunt May makes me uncomfortable in the second, from the hand to her shiny face. The ear, neck, and pink shirt don't seem up to Ross's high standard. Shouldn't some of the light/color from the explosion be hitting her?

ReplyDeleteRoss left out Nikki from the original GotG team. Fer shame. Oh, well. Great piece, nonetheless.

ReplyDeleteThat Spider-Man piece is almost scary. Aunt May should not do close-ups. It's a weird composition.
ReplyDeleteThese both amplify my growing dislike of Ross's work. Please ask him to stop.
ReplyDeleteAlso: How I miss the original GotG. What an amazing group.
Now why do you have to scare poor old Aunt May like that?
ReplyDeleteGotta agree with William Preston - to me it just ain't the Guardians without the original team with Yondu, Martinex, Charlie 27 and Vance Astro!
- Mike 'more interested in Godzilla now than GotG' from Trinidad & Tobago.
Yeah Mike from T&T, but the original GotG didn't have a gun toting talking raccoon. So they weren't as cool. {sarcasm}.
