That first picture makes me want to weep, if only I could see some snow. Here in the UK we've had one of the mildest, wettest Decembers on record, certainly in my lifetime - Christmas Day is yet again wet with a temperature more like September than December in a country on the same latitude as Canada and Russia, welcome to climate change. Anyway, Merry Christmas to everyone at the BAB !!

Yep, Merry Christmas and happy holidays in general to everyone.

Colin, we're having unseasonably mild weather for December here in Croatia as well - it drops below freezing most nights, but temps pop up during the day, and except for a lot of fog, most days it's not even overcast. But I'm not complaining: as pretty as the snow can be, I'm not at all fond of all of the accompanying problems, i.e., the shoveling, the worries about slippery roadways, etc. Had enough of that in the preceding winters...

Merry Christmas Karen and Doug, and to each and every reader, poster, and follower of our beloved BAB! May the peace of the season rest upon you all.

Colin and Edo- we are sharing your weather here along the Ohio River. Rain, and near record high temperatures this week; near 70. Seems odd for December...

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Yeah well in T & T it's basically summer all year round, the only noticeable difference is that it gets dark a bit earlier at this time of the year. I have heard from some friends and family that this winter has been unusually warm and mild. One friend who came back from Canada said that people were still walking around in t-shirts and shorts!

Chalk it up to global warming and El Nino I guess.

Wishing all of you a very happy holiday! May your Christmas be free of the humidity and overall blechh that we here in north Florida are suff... er, observing!

Yeah, El Nino is bustin' out all over; here in Saskatchewan we have way less snow than usual and the temperatures haven't been too bad either (although today is sunny and a balmy -8 degrees...or -22 if you prefer Celsius!)

Anyway, Merry Xmas to everybody.

Ha! A Christmas Morning Meteorological Forum! So wonderfully characteristic of the delightful random paths our conversations can take, eh?

Yep, 98% humidity in DC/College Park last night. 70+ degrees (record-breaking) both yesterday and today. I gladly yielded to the allure of shorts both last night and this morning. Ah! And there go the neigbors-- also in shorts! Wet, rainy, thunderstormy-- HOWEVER--

Really one of our best Christmas mornings ever in the HBFamily (and they're all pretty great, no mistake-!). As always, an incredible sequence of activities and customs. Christmas Runarounds (a tough-to-describe amalgam of detective story, one-act play, and scavenger hunt that calls upon the creative fortitude of most of the family, and occupies about 90 minutes upon awakening); nutmeg muffins and cider downstairs while we open all of our stockings; a big, delightful session of opening gifts around the tree; and a hefty brunch with Amish apple sausages and maple bacon as the centerpiece. It looks like the hazy fog of nap may be already stealing over a few folks. As I sit here, HBSon is quietly noodling away in an enchanting fashion on the lap-harp that we surprised him with this year.

Ah. . . it's just so nice.

Merry Christmas again, all!
I may change into my Speedo a little later, and will be happy to forward images to any with a keen, keen interest.
(Heh-- orrrrr perhaps we could negotiate a little subsidy for me to NOT send them? Hmm?
Hmmmm?)

Merry Christmas all !

Warm here in Chicago too. I chalk it up to Cold Miser losing a bet with Heat Miser. Green Christmas this year.

Cheers!

BTW, Doug, that Champions panel you included was a little piece of perfectness all its own. For the simple fact that it's a brief flash of a sort-of beloved, short-lived team that a very thin slice of fandom would remember at all, even. And that thin slice would be largely (or not-so-thinly) us'n's here, yes?

Christmas In South Florida
by Bill Sadefur

Twas the night before Christmas, and man it was hot. 85-plus, I'm kidding you not.
But the children were comfy. their dreams filled with fun, for the AC kept it at 71.
I in my shorts, my wife in her gown, had got into bed and were about to get down.
When out in the yard, I heard a strange sound. So, I reached for my pistol, and I jacked in a round.
I looked out the window and what did I spy? A sleigh, eight reindeer, and this fat little guy.
He moved cross the lawn, making nary a sound. Through the front door he came with leap and a bound.
I released the safety on my pistol with care, in case this intruder didn't easily scare.
I tell you right, this guy was dressed weird, green shorts, red tee-shirt with a snowy white beard.
His eyes sparkled like diamonds, his cheeks a rosy red, then he looked right at me... "Merry Christmas" he said.
I stood there a moment, and my heart filled with dread... then I fired a warning shot over his head.
He paid it no mind, and went straight to his work. I thought to myself... "Now, I feel like a jerk."
For he filled all our stockings, never stopping to pause, I knew then this fellow must be Santa Claus!
I opened my mouth, and these words I spoke, I asked Saint Nicholas "Is this some kind of joke?"
"No, I'm the real thing." he said with great cheer. "Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!"
I said "Wait a minute, aren't you dressed rather odd?"
"Aye, that I am." he said with a nod.
"You see, down this way, it gets rather hot. Sand you have, but snow you have not.
In fact, the only 'white powder' you have here in plenty, will get you a sentence of 15 to 20.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I really must run. I have lots to do, and I'm racing the sun."
Then all at once, he was gone in a flash. Out to his sleigh and away he did dash.
And I heard him exclaim, as he flew out of reach... "On Dasher! On Dancer! Let's go hit the beach!"
The last thing I heard, within shot of my ear... "Hey Comet! Hey Cupid! Someone toss me a beer!"
I woke the next morning, my heart filled with glee.
I leapt from my bed, and what did I see?...
A drunk reindeer passed out under my tree.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everybody!!
