Who's the Best... Scooby-Doo Guest-Stars?

david_b said...: I don't remember the guest Star episodes (or any..) that well, but my favs were the Dynamic Duo, Davy Jones, and I believe Sandy Duncan guested as well.

Rip Jagger said...: I'll have to give the nod to the Harlem Globetrotters. There's no real reason for it, but I always rather enjoyed that absurd cartoon.

The later Scooby series with Vincent Price was a humdinger, bringing back some real zest to the humor which had long overwhelmed the slight element of ghastly goodness the show could in its best moments deliver.

Edo Bosnar said...: I only have vague memories of the guest star season. I remember the Chan Clan, Addams Family and Josie and the Pussycats, and was there even one with Sonny & Cher, or am I mixing that up with something else?
And Matt, I totally knew who Phyllis Diller was when I was a little kid. I don't know why, really, but I just did.

Anyway, based on my spotty memories, I'd have to go with what seems the general consensus here, because they're also the ones I remember best: the Harlem Globetrotters and Batman & Robin.
Which reminds me: just recently I saw that episode of Batman Brave and the Bold in which Batmite explores alternate universes, and it included a redo of the Scooby Doo team-up. That brought a smile to my face...; September 21, 2013 at 9:19 AM

J.A. Morris said...: Coincidentally, I attended a Con yesterday, Larry Storch was one of the guests. I mention this because Storch voiced the Joker on his Scooby Doo appearances.

So I'm going with Batman & Robin for my answer. And I own it on dvd, can't say that for any other episodes of "The New Scooby Doo Movies". Speaking which, I always thought that was a weird title, since they weren't movies at all.; September 21, 2013 at 11:55 AM

The latest version (Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated) had some cool guest/recurring stars: Lewis Black, Gary Cole, Mark Hamill, Tia Carrere, Vivica Fox, Jane Wiedlin...and Harlan Ellison as himself! Twice!

I recall that when the "New Scooby Doo Movies" were on, there was a competing show called "Saturday Superstar Movies". I think I alternated weeks. Definitely liked the Harlem Globetrotters appearances, and Josie & the Pussycats. Dick Van Dyke was a welcome visitor, as well.; September 21, 2013 at 6:30 PM

Joseph said...: I loved the Globetrotters and always wanted to see the Batman & Robin (they were in the opening credits, but I never saw the actual episode).

But my favorite was Jonathan Winters. I had no idea who he was at the time, but found him so funny (as a 9-year old) that I've never been able to think of Mr. Winters without remembering his Scooby appearance.; September 22, 2013 at 1:37 AM

Karen and Doug met on the Avengers Assemble! message board back in September 2006. On June 16 2009 they went live with the Bronze Age Babies blog, sharing their love for 1970s and '80s pop culture with readers who happen by each day. Doug is a high school social science teacher and division chairman living south of Chicago; he also does contract work for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. He is married with two adult sons.

Karen originally hails from California and now works in scientific research/writing in the Phoenix area. She often contributes articles to Back Issue magazine.

Believe it or not, the Bronze Age Babies have never spoken to each other...
