I always thought of The Thing as being "rocky" more than "orange". The first "orange" character that comes to mind is Starfire from DC comics. I saw her first in the X-Men Teen Titans crossover. She absorbed language through physical contact. Who knew.

The Prowler (And baby let your conscience go there's no turning back when love takes hold hold me baby, drive me crazy touch me all night long make me love you, kiss and hug you touch me all night long).
The Thing was always my favorite underdog hero. The Thing's Two in One issues drawn mostly by Pablo Marcos and Ron Wilson. I loved those books because although they didn't get the attention of a super star comic....they had solid stories which I still like to read after all these years. It was the Marvel Essentials series that brought them to my attention again after all these years.
The Thing always appealed to me because of his every man persona and the fact that he did have a life outside of the Fantastic Four. As a solo character you got great super sagas like "The Pegasus Project"...which I have in paperback. It's surprising that he doesn't have a solo comic today. It's too bad we don't have more comics like that today. The writers knew how to tell a good story and you didn't have to invest a lot to money to read one.
Charlton Comics "E-Man" was another one of my favorites from Charlton Comics. He was drawn by Joe Stanton, who went on to illustrate the Dick Tracy daily cartoon strip. E-Man was another well written comic that I'm sorry to say should have been more famous. The Charlton Group of comics always got short changed because they weren't as big as Marvel or DC. However they did produce solid entertaining comics in their day.
One thing I noticed in those Two In One tales was the fact that it was a short story you could put down. Unlike the epic event of the month that Marvel is now embracing, it’s the short stories of the team up format that kept me coming back. I can’t even look at the current characters today because they bear no resemblance to the ones I grew up with.
Marvel became a gargantuan entertainment giant with Disney. With the price of a Marvel comic being $3.99 or more; is it any surprise that fans are getting their comics on line or waiting for the trade paperback?
Lessee here, we also have Sasquatch from Alpha Flight and also Ulik the Rock Troll, a Thor foe. I'm sure there are many others, but these two come to mind. Osvaldo, if you love Aquaman, more power to ya. He was never my cup of tea, but if Jason Mamoa is gonna play him you can bet on Aunt Petunia's daisies this ain't gonna be yer father's Aquaman!
All the above sounds as if I'm channelling my favourite orange character - everyone's favourite lumpy-now-rocky ever-lovin' blue eyed Thing! Ben Grimm is the king of the orange ones as far as I'm concerned. His grumpy yet lovable persona really is one of the most beloved in the Marvel universe. Someone once said that of all the FF the Thing was perhaps most like Jack Kirby in terms of personality; a cigar chomping guy with a heart of gold hidden behind a gruff exterior. Dunno how true that is, but it's how I like to think of Ben and Jack.

Doug, I feel compelled to add that besides the two fine artists you mentioned, Aquaman also had Don Newton and the great Jim Aparo in his corner as well...

Green and orange are my favorite colors.
Prowler, I ain't touching you with a 10-foot pole!
Maybe you need to spin that one-hit wonder from the Divinyls...
Doug
Another orange character is Tigra and Tiger Shark is also a bit orangey.
I hear that Orange is the new Black.
Hmm, I just had an idea for a character -- The Orange Panther.
'scuse me, I gotta go copyright that.
The Human Torch is also orange :)
Ah, but the greatest orange character of all is - E-man!
Yes, Doug, I was just going to say, 'Prowler, are you flirting with us..?'
As I used to tell the missus,
"I maybe easy, but I'm not cheap..."
I'd go with Ben Grimm. With Starfire, you saw a lot more orange than her costume...
"Didn’t wolverine have an orange costume at some point?"
"No, Rich, that was after our time."
"Aha, no it wasn’t BABsters, because I’m referring to that alien costume he had post Starjammers."
(Literally the only other orange costume I could think of!)
Are we supposed to be commenting on their orangeyness? Their contribution to being orange? The prejudice faced by the orange in our society ?
Hey I just thought of another one: David Copperfield. He has magic powers and he’s definitely orange.
Richard
The first thing I thought of when I saw the headline was, well, THE THING. Hey, I'm even wearing an orange shirt today to get into the BAB spirit.
As far as adding orange suggestions to the list, how about the Bronze Tiger?
By the way, I do like Wolvie's orange costume, sorry.
Well, there's always Jack o' Lantern...only his head was orange, but it certainly fits with the Halloween theme.
Or how about the Orange Goblin...I mean Hobgoblin? He was...pretty damn orange :)
The Orange Goblin comment was me...forgot to sign it.
Mike W.
By the way, Osvaldo, is your comment a roundabout way of saying Aquaman is your favorite character? ... :P
The Mandarin. He's the only super-doer who's named AFTER an orange.
Steve wins.
Doug
....oh, wait. This was a contest?
Nah. But if it was, Osvaldo would have already won for coming out of the closet on his Aquaman crush.
Not making any judgements. A character has Nick Cardy and Mike Grell in his corner, he can't be that bad...
Doug
